Castlebay Community School and the Nicolson Institute were successful at this year’s FilmG. Castlebay school scooped two prizes. Their film, An Gealladh Meallta, won the prize for top film in the youth category and their other entry, An Saighdear, got the top prize for best music video. The Nicolson Institute won the prize for Gaelic for their entry, An t-am ri Teachd.
In the Open category, John Murdo MacAulay from Point in Lewis was very successful. His film, Briste, won the prize for top drama of the evening and the FilmG theme award. Erica Morrison, who acted in John Murdo’s play, secured the best actor award.
Cllr Catriona Stewart, Chair of Education and Children’s Services at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said, “I am very proud of all our young people who were nominated for various categories and I am delighted that schools in the Western Isles are taking such an active role in both learning and developing pupils’ skills in Gaelic, drama and in media. I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to Castlebay School and the Nicolson Institute who were worthy winners in their categories.”
