Harris Marina Project, Vital Next Step says MacNeil

Angus-MacNeil-MP-Hebrides-TNa h-Eileanan an Iar SNP MP, Angus MacNeil met with members of the Harris Marina Project in Tarbert on Friday, to support efforts to ensure that Harris is successful in achieving the desire for a yacht marina development, particularly as this sector has become increasingly important to the tourist economy.

The Harris Marina project is based on twin, complementary pontoon facilities at Tarbert and Scalpay (North Harbour).

Speaking after the meeting Angus MacNeil MP said:

“I shall be writing to the Coastal Community Fund and the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund to help Harris Development bring forward the much needed pontoon marina development, it’s a vital next step in the islands.  There is evidently a great deal of local support and desire to see Tarbert and Scalpay included in the network of ports with improved facilities for berthing yachts.

Unfortunately, in the last round of funding, the Harris Marina project missed out.  I am fully supportive of this project and can see the opportunities that will present itself when Tarbert and Scalpay become an improved ports for yachts.

I shall also be writing to CMAL who have an important role at Tarbert harbour to ensure a solution can be found for deeper water berthing, which will bring in the bigger yachts and as has been discovered, perhaps not coincidentally, Harris is in real need for ‘step-ashore’ facilities and this project is the ideal solution that Harris needs.
