Western Isles are to be improved.Limited capacity for off-island links have until now stifled attempts to improve broadband access to islanders, culminating in the local service provider Hebrides.net being unable to take on new customers.
However Highlands and Islands Enterprise has now provided funding to enable BT to double off-island link capacity. This is expected to be achieved within 65 working days.
Mrs Grant said: “I am delighted that progress has been made after a long campaign by my colleague, outgoing Highlands and lslands Labour MSP Peter Peacock. However, this is just the start of much needed local improvement services. We are hopeful that the Western Isles will also benefit from the Superfast Broadband Pilot currently being discussed by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) officials.”
