A CalMac spokesman said:”We share everyone frustrations when technical issues impact on ferry services and we do everything we can to minimise disruptions by redeploying ships if possible. Unfortunately our options are extremely limited especially during the winter refit programme when the larger ships which could potentially be used for cover are themselves in refit or already covering elsewhere in the network. We accept that the MV Isle of Arran is not ideal, but in this case she was the only available option, and the fact that she sailed almost the entire length of our network overnight from Islay to provide the first service from Stornoway this morning, amply demonstrates our commitment to the route.”
